In a thrilling Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics defeated the Indiana Pacers 117-104 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 29 points, followed by Jaylen Brown with 23 and Marcus Smart with 20. Domantas Sabonis recorded a double-double for the Pacers with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Tyrese Haliburton added 19 points.
The Celtics dominated from the opening tip, taking an early lead and never looking back. They shot 50% from the field, including 13-of-33 from three-point range, while the Pacers shot just 39.6% from the field and 26.5% from three.
The Pacers kept pace in the first half, trailing by only six at the break. But the Celtics pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Pacers 34-22. The Celtics' defense held the Pacers to just 38% shooting in the second half and forced 12 turnovers.
The Celtics now hold a 1-0 lead in the series. Game 2 will be played in Indianapolis on Thursday, May 23.
