On the afternoon of May 20, 2013, a violent EF5 tornado tore through Moore, Oklahoma, leaving behind a trail of destruction and heartbreak.
The National Weather Service has confirmed the tornado's rating as EF5, the highest level on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with winds reaching an estimated 200 mph. The tornado touched down near Newcastle and traveled through the southern Oklahoma City and Moore areas.
The tornado's path of destruction included homes, businesses, and a school. Tragically, 24 people were killed, including seven schoolchildren who were taking shelter in their designated safe area.
