Fulton County Da Has Until September 30 To Respond To Petition

Supreme Court Gives Fani Willis a New Deadline

Fulton County DA has until September 30 to respond to petition

Willis can stay on Georgia prosecution of Trump, but decision could be appealed

The U.S. Supreme Court has granted Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis an extension to respond to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows's request to quash a subpoena for his testimony in the Georgia criminal probe into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Willis previously had a deadline of Sept. 3 to respond to the petition, but Justice Clarence Thomas granted her an extension until Sept. 30.

The Fulton County District Attorney's Office is investigating whether Trump and his allies committed any crimes in their efforts to overturn the election results in Georgia.

Willis has so far indicted 16 people in the probe, including Trump's former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Trump has not been charged with any crimes in Georgia, but he is a target of the investigation.

The former president has denied any wrongdoing and has called the investigation a "witch hunt."
